New drugs are regularly produced and added to control lists which enable a great challenges for Law Enforcement Agencies. Therefore ANF must be equipped to analyze wide range of narcotics drugs, psychotropic substances and chemical precursors. Forensic analysis is most modern and authentic tool to enhances capability and performance through impartial scientific approach to help out Investigation, Research and Analysis and Judicial Proceedings. It serves as a platform for research in the fields of latest drug trafficking / abuse trends, make strategies, analyze data for future developments, policy making for counter narcotics and ultimately to suggest to government necessary amendments in relevant laws. It provides an effective academic research and analysis facility for drug law enforcement students.
ANF is currently dependent on other government departments / labs for analysis of seized drugs. Dependence on other labs which may have some issues like test results are limited to extent of confirmation of suspected material as illicit drugs and lack qualitative / quantitative attributes obtaining results from other government departments consume time and effort, creating unwanted problems / delays in prosecution process and ultimately weakening the case cause wastage of financial and manpower resources. To reduce the dependence, efforts were already in hand to establish Forensic Lab.
